Abstract
This is a preliminary report comparing responses to two surveys of motorcyclists conducted in 2001
and 2006 in NSW. The first survey was conducted to inform the development of a road safety strategic plan by the Motorcycle Council of NSW (MCC). In the subsequent five years, a number of significant motorcycle safety initiatives were undertaken by State and Local government agencies and through the rider community. The second survey, in 2006, found evidence to suggest that the increased focus on motorcycle safety has registered with riders. A higher proportion of respondents in 2006 could recall a specific motorcycle safety message, there also appears to have been a general increase in safety dialogue amongst riders.
