Australasian College of Road Safety Welcomes New President
The Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS) is delighted to announce the election of renowned road safety researcher Professor Ann Williamson as President of ACRS, replacing Mr Martin Small who has stepped down from the role after a three-year-term.
Professor Williamson is Emeritus Professor at UNSW Sydney and was Director of the Transport and Road Safety (TARS) Research Centre for nearly a decade until retiring at the end of 2018.
Awarded the ACRS Fellowship in 2016 Professor Williamson is widely recognised for road safety research, especially on understanding the role of the road user within the road safety system. She is committed to ensuring research evidence is used to develop best possible road safety policy and practice.
“I am honoured to lead the Australasian College of Road Safety. I look forward to working with the ACRS members and stakeholders to extend our policy reach and continue to build upon the College’s strong foundation.” Professor Williamson said.
“I wish to thank outgoing President Martin Small for his outstanding leadership over the past three years. His work has ensured that the reach of the College has broadened significantly.” Professor Williamson continued.
On stepping down as President Mr Small said “I have been proud to have served as President of the College and welcome Ann to the position as the College continues to move forward.”
“When it comes to road safety there is no single perspective or framework that answers all our questions – we need to keep looking, thinking, testing and adapting on our road ahead. Together we are heading in the right direction.” Mr Small concluded.
The ACRS Executive Committee and members thank Mr Small for his service. The College will continue to benefit from Mr Small’s 25 years of road safety experience in Australia, New Zealand and internationally as he will continue to serve on the Executive Committee as Immediate Past President.
Professor Williamson was elected this week by the ACRS Executive Committee following the ACRS Annual General Meeting held earlier this month. Her term as President commences immediately.
