Association between number of driving test failures and crash liability of older drivers in New Zealand

From May 1999, a new system governing the licensing of older drivers was introduced in New Zealand that included a practical driving test with expanded scope to be sat every two years from the time the driver turns 80. This paper discusses the often conflicting issues of older driver safety and mobility, factors related to cessation of driving under this new licensing system and presents a case-control analysis of older driver injury crash liability in relation to driver age, gender, traffic infringements and number of driving test failures.
