Abstract
Accurate and timely data on the number and causes of work related road crashes are important to better understand work-related road trauma in Western Australia and to provide a basis for implementing appropriate interventions. The aim of this research therefore, was to identify and assess potential data sources on work related road crashes in Western Australia and to suggest ways in which the information could be improved. The data sources identified included occupational health and safety organisations, the Department of Health, the Police Service, insurance bodies, and the Offices of the Coroner and Registrar General. A semi-structured telephone interview was conducted with a representative of each data source. Summaries of all relevant data were completed for the various data sources. The strengths and weaknesses of the available data on work related road crashes will be discussed. Recommendations to improve data on work related road crashes are made.
