This seminar focuses on capacity building for the next generation of road safety professionals – youth – during the Second Decade of Action and Global Plan. The webinar will focus on sharing best practices, as well ideas and solutions for action to accelerate achievements.
During the webinar Galeboe Motlhajoe will describe the advocacy for safe mobility systems from a local (Botswana) and global perspective. Young people deserve a spot at the decision-making table so that they can contribute to the achievement of targets and goals that have relevance to their lives. We want to raise awareness about road safety and safe mobility issues in the most important national and international spaces and continue to break the silos by working through multi-sectoral approaches.
Sovann will also share about the engagement of Cambodian active youth volunteers to build a culture of road safety best practice in Cambodia via proactive partnership strategy for influencing policy- and decision makers, development partners, and all road users about a long-term and low-cost effectiveness Road Safety Education for safety driving behaviour with a combination of legislative Enforcement and forgive measures Engineering performance.

Mr Galeboe Motlhajoe is the co-founder and Acting Coordinator of SORSA, Botswana’s first youth and children -focused road safety NGO. SORSA has partnered with Puma Energy, Amend ORG on a proven-effective school-area road safety program. This program provides simple, targeted infrastructure measures near primary schools – including footpaths, speed humps, bollards, and zebra crossings – that decrease vehicle speeds and separate child pedestrians from traffic. SORSA also pioneered the training and assessment of schools with iRAP Star Rating app and working with Emergency Assist 991 and the FIA Foundation to put infrastructure in schools. Galeboe has over 10 year working in road safety and partnering with Global Alliance, UNEP, IRF and Walk 21 to deliver and implement road safety solution locally and globally.
Mr Kong Sovann is the Founder and Advisor of CAMSAFE gathering national experienced public health and road safety practitioners to encourage youth and women to promote road safety and public health related issues. During the emerging impact period of COVID-19 pandemic, CAMSAFE continues partnership synergy initiative with international senior road safety experts in Australia to organize virtual capacity building training for Cambodian youth peer influencers, supporting them to identify major risk factors, and design key implementing activities. Sovann has been working in road safety filed as country manager, project lead and specialist of various projects/ programmes of WHO, GRSP, iRAP, ISF, and ADB’s supported to rural development ministry for community-based road safety. He is also currently leading CESO’s Accelerating Women’s Empowerment (AWE) global flagship program for Cambodia.
